The project was named after the secret VX1 Piranha attack submarine prototype. The game featured a dense and threatening underwater atmosphere, a state-of-the-art 3D engine, real-time light sourcing, support for 3D objects of any size and level of detail without polygon limitation (through dynamic level-of-detail handling).
With its highly realistic visual effects (in 1997) and a thrilling background story, this game should have brought a new dimension of action to the online gaming community. However, after Bertelsmann AG decided to sell their interactive entertainment activities to the US publisher Take2 interactive, the development was ceased.

Subtrade - Return to Irata is one of Reakktor.com's first games. Being an economic multiplayer simulation, the gameplay of Subtrade is based on the 8-bit computer game M.U.L.E. by Dan Bunten. At its release, Subtrade received excellent ratings (e.g. 85% from Powerplay, Germany's most popular computer game magazine in the early 90's). The game was a simultaneous release for the Commodore AMIGA and PC MS-DOS.
For its outstanding gameplay, Subtrade received an excellent classic review at Underdogs.org.: "Overall, Subtrade is definitely one of the best M.U.L.E. clones, if not THE best. M.U.L.E. fans will definitely enjoy this one, [...] Thumbs up!". The current classic rating of Subtrade is 8.87 out of 10.
